How awful is it to think of something as appalling as a military raid in a refugee camp as banal? As “just another thing”?
Yet this is what can happen if you’re following what the Israeli forces are doing in Palestine, and how that violence is intensifying.
Just this year, we saw deadly raids in Palestinian cities like Jenin, Nablus, and Ramallah, and a brutal settler attack – protected by Israeli soldiers – on the town of Huwara, described by various groups as a pogrom.
Just yesterday, on June 19, Jenin was raided again. This time, Israeli forces used combat helicopters – the first time in 20 years – bringing its efforts to erase Palestinian resistance to a new level.
Five people were killed, including a 15-year-old boy, making it the 26th Palestinian child murdered by Israeli forces this year.
Will these killings be investigated? Historically, we know they won’t be. Just recently, when Israeli forces murdered a two-year-old boy, Mohammad Tamimi, as he was in a car with his dad, no accountability followed.
And why would we see anything else than impunity?
Why would a state investigate….state violence?
That violence is clear, omnipresent, and ever-increasing.
Even when Israel is not conducting any big raids, it continues arresting Palestinian children and keeping them in military jails, beating Palestinians on the streets of Jerusalem, targetting journalists, harassing people at illegal checkpoints, and engaging in an infinite number of dehumanising and humiliating acts.
There’s never anything new about Israeli state violence.
So we have to continue condemning it, both raising our voices and amplifying the voices of others.
And if someone’s “debating” you on your stance on human rights and their violations by Israel, I invite you to ask them one question:
“The occupier is raiding a refugee camp” – which part of this sentence are you OK with? Because it is one weird thing to defend.

On One of The Gravest Crimes against Humanity That Not Every Country Chose to Condemn at The UN
The UN just voted to describe the transatlantic slave trade as ‘the gravest crime against humanity’. Yet not every country, according to its vote, agrees. My commentary is on what the abstentions show.
Your Antiwar Voice Is Needed More Than You Might Think
The war machine won’t stop until it’s stopped, just as its propaganda won’t just disappear on its own. It was to be actively pointed to, deconstructed, and rejected as loudly as possible. And this is where everyone’s voice matters.
Good News: We Are on a Boat Ride Together; Bad News: It’s Being Steered by Psychopaths
We’re on a boat steered by psychopaths — and they’re not taking us anywhere nice. As the U.S. and Israel are destroying Lebanon and Iran, one thing can’t be clearer: it is the whole world that has to make them stop.
