I think we don’t talk enough, at least publicly, about the secondary horror you might be feeling, too.
That is seeing your own government bow down to fascist regimes.
The rage, heartbreak, and even helplessness that surround witnessing it are very much real.
Acknowledging them can only bring us closer together in our solidarity – and it may also save us from complete insanity.
I am from Lithuania, a small country in Europe that likes to remind the world that we were the first state to gain independence from the Soviet Union.
Now, we stand firmly with the occupier. We stand with a regime that commits genocide and, together with the U.S., would love to see Iran destroyed, and is putting very active efforts to do so.
There is no outrage when schools and hospitals are bombed – or at least when it is not done by Russia. There is only the mainstream narrative of how we should stand firmly with the U.S. and other allies, because, in short, they are the good ones, and we want a geopolitically mighty friend to protect us. What that friend does to other nations becomes of no interest to us; it is something to be denied, defended, or, at best, not talked about.
The last paragraphs are a very calm summary of what I have been recording my videos in Lithuanian about, something I decided to do at the beginning of the Gaza genocide. I didn’t know that, once started, I simply wouldn’t stop. Just like the genocide didn’t stop. And, as yet another horror, just like my government’s support for the Israeli regime wouldn’t cease. In fact, Lithuania remains one of the countries where Israeli politicians are very much welcome, bilateral collaboration is only being strengthened, and even new flight routes to Israel are being introduced.

That has been the horror surrounding the actual horrors: to see my own country bow down to empires, falling into an ever-deepening moral abyss alongside them.
There is never a meaningful attempt to crawl out of that abyss. The fall is truly never-ending. And to witness it, even when putting conscious and continuous effort to somehow reverse it, has been absolutely enraging and soul-crushing at the same time.

In short, MY country supports fascist regimes. And because of that, my head is continually exploding, and there is a heaviness in my heart that I have to learn to carry with me till the day there is no longer a conscious “I”.
Intellectually, I know the rage and grief are what we embrace and transform into meaningful action. It is the only way forward – especially if we want to protect our souls from being crushed and our minds from insanity.
And I know this is how so many of us feel, globally and daily.
I hope you know that you have an entire global community with whom you can talk about it openly.
Do it if it’s needed. Protect your heart and mind, and continue to use them for good ❤️
Here is a short video I filmed recently on a very similar topic. Before I record a longer video on this same topic, let me share it with you here:

What we’re seeing in Cuba is an intensification of imperial violence by those who have been unleashing it on Palestine, too. The parallels here are many, including how the mentality of a coloniser cannot be more on display here.
