Can We Celebrate Our Independence Days Without Being Jerks? Part 1

Not every holiday is innocent – not for everyone, at least.

What does Australia Day have in common with the carnival in São Paulo? A quick answer: a parallel that is probably insulting to the very point I’m trying to make in my episode.

Today, I talk about the known controversy – also known as…simply history! – that surrounds certain national holidays in countries that have a colonial past.
